Role: Scala Developer
Contract Length: 12 Months
Location: Fully Remote (UK Based)
Rate: Inside IR35
Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join a high-profile government programme. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale, cloud-based services within an Agile delivery environment, contributing to the development of secure, scalable, and resilient applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Back End applications using Scala.
  • Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Work closely with architects, DevOps engineers, testers, and business stakeholders.
  • Develop secure, performant, and scalable solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies.
  • Support production deployments and troubleshooting activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications in Scala.
  • Experience building REST APIs and microservices.
  • Knowledge of functional programming principles.
  • Experience with Akka, Play Framework, or similar Scala ecosystem technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

  • Previous Public Sector or Government project experience.
  • Experience working within GDS environments.
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures.

Requirements

  • Active SC Clearance is mandatory.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Available to start within a reasonable timeframe.

This is a long-term 12-month contract offering fully remote working and the opportunity to work on a significant government digital transformation programme.
