Scientific Data Curator - CMC & Drug Discovery | Hybrid | Contract Opportunity

I'm working with a leading pharmaceutical organisation that is investing heavily in AI-driven research and development and is looking to appoint an experienced Scientific Data Curator to support the creation of high-quality, AI-ready scientific data assets.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who can bridge the gap between drug discovery, CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls), data governance, and AI-enabled research.

You'll work closely with scientists, engineers, and data specialists to improve the quality, structure, and accessibility of complex scientific datasets, helping to accelerate research and support the next generation of AI-enabled drug development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Curate, standardise, and manage scientific datasets across drug discovery and CMC functions.
  • Develop data standards, metadata frameworks, and governance processes.
  • Transform complex scientific data into structured, AI-ready assets.
  • Improve data quality, lineage, consistency, and traceability across R&D datasets.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemists, formulation scientists, process engineers, and AI specialists.
  • Support digital transformation and data governance initiatives across research and development teams.
  • Promote FAIR data principles and best practices across scientific data environments.

Essential experience:

  • A degree, Master's, or PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Data Science, Informatics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant pharmaceutical industry experience across drug discovery and CMC environments.
  • Strong understanding of scientific data curation, data governance, metadata, lineage, and data quality.
  • Knowledge of small-molecule drug development, including chemistry, formulation, manufacturing, and analytical sciences.
  • Experience working with laboratory and scientific data platforms, including ELNs, LIMS, knowledge graphs, and related data ecosystems.
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning applications within pharmaceutical research.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience leading data governance programmes.
  • Experience supporting AI-enabled research initiatives.
  • Exposure to enterprise-wide digital transformation programmes within pharmaceutical R&D.

If you're passionate about improving scientific data and enabling AI-driven innovation within pharmaceutical research, we'd be keen to hear from you.
