About the roleThe Technician Trainee role is an entry-level development opportunity designed for individuals with little or no previous experience, including those looking to begin a new career in engineering. The role provides hands-on training and practical experience in supporting BT's critical network infrastructure across either electronics engineering, radio engineering, or a combination of both disciplines.
Trainees will develop the skills and knowledge required to install, maintain and repair network equipment that underpins broadband, mobile and business communication services. Activities may include working within exchanges, data centres and network sites, installing fibre infrastructure, maintaining communication equipment, troubleshooting faults, and supporting service restoration activities.
Those specialising in radio engineering will contribute to the maintenance and repair of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G radio networks, working across a diverse range of environments, including urban, rural and remote locations. The role may involve working at height and travelling to sites across the UK.
The specific scope of work, training pathway and technical skills developed will vary depending on business requirements and geographic location. Full details will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role i.e. able to bend, stretch,kneeland crouch.Alsomust be able to climb, work at floor and ceiling level inside buildings, tower structures androad sideinfrastructure, lift heavy drums/cables and recognise coloured wiring.
Individuals willbe requiredto hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
What you will be doingAs part of the role your variation of your attendance is at your first/second line manager's discretion to support service and could include any five days from six excluding Sunday and may require the need to work 12 Saturdays across a 12-month period.
Prioritises health and safety at all times, working in line with job licence, agreed competencies and the BT Health & Safety Handbook.
Undertakes on site risk assessments, continuously identifying and managing hazards as work progresses.
Reports and records incidents and near misses promptly, and challenges unsafe behaviour where appropriate, including requesting ID on BT premises.
Creates an inclusive working environment, where people from all backgrounds can succeed.
Supports and works with Networks teams to deliver, making our unit an amazing workplace for everyone.
Execute all required work (allocated and self-identified) in line with the priorities of the team.
Complete work, entering accurate codes and quality notes on appropriate systems.
Complete all Technician Development Portfolio learning and assessments in line with agreed milestones and development plans.
Take ownership of personal learning and development, actively building technical knowledge and practical engineering skills.
Follow established processes, procedures and guidance to complete work safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Support the delivery of engineering programmes, projects, maintenance activities and testing activities under the direction of senior team members.
Develop competence in the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of network infrastructure and equipment.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, customers and stakeholders to support successful operational outcomes.
Drives own performance ensuring they are effectively contributing to wider team measures taking ownership for given area.
Actively coaches/buddies other team members, including new joiners, to support best practice, quality standards and support delivery of new skills/technologies.
Works with line manager to drive personal upskilling and development.
All work on equipment is in accordance with documented procedures and practices as provided by BT and its suppliers.
Maintains tools, equipment and PPE ensuring quality and calibration.
Actively promotes a continuous improvement mindset, contributing ideas, supporting ownership of improvements, and identifying and progressing issues through to completion.
Supervises third party contractors on site, acting as landlord representative where required
Ownership of critical and urgent network repair/provision/maintenance activity.
Raising of Issues/risk to more senior individuals to facilitate change
Responsible for being compliant with waste removal policies.
