Animal Assistant
Operational Support
1 full-time permanent post (37 hours per week).
£22,101.00 to £22,671.00 per annum plus enhancements
Location: Wakefield
A 24/7 shift pattern is in operation at the Unit.
West Yorkshire Police is looking to appoint an Animal Assistant. The appointed candidate will work within the Yorkshire and Humber Region.
As an Animal Assistant, you will need to be good at working as part of a team, have exceptional communication skills, and are happy to work with animals. You would relish the opportunity to work with animals and would be motivated by the rewarding nature of the job. Any person who likes animals will find this to be a happy and rewarding work environment. Your remit would be to ensure the welfare of seized animals is looked after and to maintain stock levels of food and cleaning products.
Your day-to-day duties will include caring for seized animals, feeding, cleaning, exercising, and basic medical care. This role is pivotal in ensuring the welfare of animals in police custody.

Within this role, there is an opportunity for individuals to develop into successful Animal Assistants and improve their skills in working with various animals, with a focus on dogs. There is also the potential to progress to the role of Animals Collection Officer, which entails attending seizures of animals and transporting them to the kennels. Additionally, there is a scope to develop grooming skills and provide medical care for dogs.
