Business Development Manager - 132kV & Infrastructure Projects (Civil Works)
Location: Hybrid - Essex or Cambridge (with UK-wide travel required)
Salary: £50,000-£80,000 per annum (DOE)
Benefits: £500 monthly car allowance + Mileage paid

Are you an experienced Business Development Manager with strong connections across the UK utilities, electricity infrastructure or renewable energy sectors with experience across 132kV and above?

Our client is a leading NERS accredited electrical contractor delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and an expanding order book, they are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to help drive new business and strengthen relationships with key clients across the electricity and infrastructure markets including DNOs, ICPs and main contractors. This role requires a willingness to travel regularly to meet with stakeholders, including staying away from home during parts of the week when necessary.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across the UK electricity infrastructure sector. You'll build long-term relationships with clients, developers, DNOs, ICPs and principal contractors while supporting the delivery of successful bids and helping to develop the company's future growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure new business opportunities across the utilities, electrical infrastructure and renewable energy sectors.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with company growth plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, DNOs, ICPs, developers and principal contractors.
  • Manage opportunities from initial engagement through to contract award.
  • Support the preparation of high-quality tenders, proposals and client presentations.
  • Work closely with operational, commercial and estimating teams throughout the bid process.
  • Attend client meetings, networking events and industry conferences.
  • Monitor market trends, upcoming frameworks and competitor activity.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline of opportunities and business forecasts.

About You

To be considered, you will have:

  • A proven track record in business development within utilities, electrical infrastructure, renewable energy or civil engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the UK electricity network and infrastructure market.
  • Existing relationships with DNOs, ICPs, developers, utility providers or major infrastructure contractors.
  • Existing experience at 132kV and above
  • Experience winning new business and developing long-term client partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to identify and convert opportunities.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • A willingness to travel across the UK.
