Job Overview

UX Designer - Assistant Vice President (Barclays, Manchester, UK). The role leads the creation of best in class user experiences for digital banking products, aligning design with customer needs, business objectives and industry best practices. The position ensures design quality, gathers user insights, monitors post launch impact, and advocates for user centred principles across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualise, design and implement user centric digital banking products and journeys.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers and business analysts to translate business requirements into compelling user experiences.
  • Develop interactive prototypes, wireframes and design documentation to visualise concepts.
  • Iterate designs based on user feedback, technical feasibility and evolving business needs.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing and data analysis to inform design decisions.
  • Monitor design impact post launch using relevant customer experience (CX) metrics.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility, legal compliance and risk associated with new product development.
  • Advise on governance oversight and provide design assurance throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Mentor and coach team members, fostering a strong design culture and delivering high quality outcomes.
  • Lead cross functional initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders and aligning cross departmental teams.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • End to End Product & Service Design - Proven ability to lead discovery, define user journeys, create interaction designs and deliver validated solutions for complex digital products.
  • Stakeholder Management & Influence - Effective engagement and influence of senior business, product, technology, risk and operations stakeholders.
  • Data Driven UX & Evidence Based Decision Making - Experience using customer research, analytics, usability testing and behavioural insights to identify opportunities and measure design impact.
  • Design System & Accessibility Expertise - Knowledge of enterprise design systems, WCAG 2.2 standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Financial Services / Digital Banking Experience - Understanding of banking, payments, commercial banking, treasury, or regulated digital environments.
  • Leadership & Mentoring - Coaching designers, driving design quality and fostering a strong design culture without direct line management responsibility.
Experience & Expertise
  • Strong experience applying human centred design methodologies from research through to implementation.
  • Ability to translate customer needs into business outcomes and build alignment across cross functional teams.
  • Proven track record in articulating UX value through KPIs and business metrics.
  • Understanding of security, compliance and risk considerations in customer facing experiences.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead design initiatives and influence organisational UX maturity.
