Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Snowflake Data Engineer to join a high-impact data migration project focused on modernizing our data platform. The successful candidate will play a key role in migrating enterprise data workloads from Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to Snowflake, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions.
Working closely with data architects, business stakeholders, and engineering teams, you will design, build, optimize, and support data pipelines while ensuring data quality, governance, and operational excellence throughout the migration life cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of data assets, ETL/ELT processes, and analytical workloads from GCP to Snowflake.
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable data models within Snowflake.
- Build and maintain robust ELT pipelines using modern data integration tools and cloud-native technologies.
- Migrate datasets from GCP services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Cloud SQL into Snowflake.
- Optimize Snowflake performance through clustering, partitioning, query tuning, and warehouse sizing.
- Implement data quality validation, reconciliation, and automated testing throughout the migration process.
- Develop reusable frameworks and automation for data ingestion and transformation.
- Collaborate with solution architects to define migration strategies and best practices.
- Implement security controls, role-based access, and data governance within Snowflake.
- Monitor data pipelines, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize operational performance.
- Produce technical documentation, migration runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials.
- Support business users during user acceptance testing (UAT) and post-migration stabilization.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake.
- Strong experience migrating enterprise data platforms to Snowflake.
- Experience working with Google Cloud Platform, including:
- BigQuery
- Cloud Storage (GCS)
- Cloud SQL
- Dataflow (desirable)
- Pub/Sub (desirable)
- Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.
- Experience developing ELT pipelines using tools such as dbt, Matillion, Informatica, Fivetran, or similar.
- Strong Python programming skills for automation and data engineering.
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or similar.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Good understanding of dimensional modelling, data warehousing, and modern data architecture.
- Experience with data quality, lineage, metadata management, and governance.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
