As a Backend Platforms Engineer within the UK VOD Support team, you'll play a key role in ensuring Sky's Video On Demand platforms remain robust, scalable, and future ready. You'll leverage your technical expertise to optimise backend systems, deliver innovative solutions, and provide advanced support for production environments. This role is critical to maintaining seamless content delivery for millions of customers while driving continuous improvement across our platforms.
What you'll do
- Configure, install, and support VOD systems to meet evolving business requirements.
- Perform proactive maintenance of software applications and operating systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive configuration and support documentation.
- Lead and manage assigned projects, delivering services aligned with strategic objectives.
- Oversee system and server administration to guarantee high availability and reliability for authorised users.
- Maintain multi site network operations and backend infrastructure through regular updates and monitoring.
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and security issues, implementing long term solutions to prevent recurrence.
What you'll bring
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another related technical discipline.
- Strong knowledge of IT systems engineering and backend infrastructure.
- Experience in system capacity planning, functional configuration, and auditing.
- Familiarity with system planning tools and performance analysis.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in coding/scripting with one or more languages: Python, Java, PHP, HTML, Bash/Shell.
- Experience with Oracle DB and SQL.
- Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux system configuration and administration.
- Expertise in monitoring and observability tools such as DataMiner, Splunk, Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, and Vector.
