About the Role
The Oxford University Museum of Natural History and Oxford University Herbaria are working together as part of the Central England Digitisation Co Hub, a major collaborative initiative that is transforming access to natural history collections across the UK.
As a member of a small Digitisation Team primarily based at the Museum of Natural History, you will prepare, handle and digitise important zoological and botanical collections. You will capture high quality images and detailed metadata using established workflows, ensuring accuracy while maintaining the highest standards of collections care.
This is a full time, fixed term post for 18 months.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, handle and digitise fragile zoological and botanical specimens.
- Capture high quality images and record comprehensive metadata.
- Follow detailed digitisation workflows consistently and maintain accuracy and quality.
- Maintain the highest standards of collections care during all tasks.
- Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers and external partners to ensure smooth operations.
What We Are Looking For
- Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity for handling delicate, irreplaceable museum specimens.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using collections management systems or relational databases.
- Experience in checking and verifying data accurately.
- Ability to follow detailed workflows consistently while performing repetitive tasks.
- Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills.
- Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
