Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire (with occasional UK travel)Salary: £50,000-£60,000Working Pattern: Flexible working arrangements availableType: Permanent

The Role

Our client is a growing IT Service Provider and they are looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the team, supporting a wide range of client environments across networking, cloud and core infrastructure technologies.

This is a hands-on technical role with a strong networking focus, ideal for someone who enjoys designing and delivering robust infrastructure solutions while acting as a senior technical point of escalation.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver infrastructure and networking projects across multiple client environments Design, implement and support LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN and firewall solutions Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and networking issues Support infrastructure assessments, technical onboarding activities and solution reviews Design, document and maintain network and infrastructure solutions Work closely with internal teams to support project delivery and pre-sales technical discussions Drive automation, standardisation and continuous service improvements Maintain accurate technical documentation, network diagrams and operational procedures Research and evaluate new technologies to enhance client environments and service offerings

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone with experience working within an MSP or multi-customer environment, with strong networking expertise alongside broader infrastructure knowledge.

Technical Experience

Strong understanding of networking technologies including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, WAN, LAN, WLAN, VLAN and VPN Hands-on experience with firewall and networking platforms including Fortinet, Cisco Meraki, Sophos, WatchGuard and UniFi Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices Experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, MFA and SSO Experience supporting cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Virtualisation experience with VMware, Hyper-V or Citrix environments Strong troubleshooting, documentation and technical problem-solving skills Experience delivering technical projects and infrastructure upgrades

Desirable

Fortinet certifications (FCA/FCP) or strong Fortinet experience CCNA, CCNP, Network+ or equivalent networking certifications Experience with network monitoring and management platforms Microsoft or cloud-related certifications Experience supporting multi-site and multi-customer environments
