Head of Emerging Technology - NHS (Band 8b)

Location: Croydon Healthcare Services

Hours: Part-time (3 days per week) Duration: 4-month contract (Immediate start) Rate: Within One London Cap (Band 8b) £37.19 - £42.71/hour

About the Role

Gap Personnel is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Head of Emerging Technology to lead the Trust's digital innovation agenda.

This is a senior leadership opportunity to drive transformation aligned with the NHS 10-Year Health Plan, supporting the shift towards digital-first healthcare, community-based care, and preventative medicine.

You will play a critical role in positioning the Trust at the forefront of innovation, leading the adoption of cutting-edge technologies including AI, data platforms, wearables, genomics, and robotics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver the Trust's digital innovation strategy
  • Oversee a portfolio of emerging technologies and AI initiatives
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with academia and industry
  • Secure external funding (e.g. NIHR, Innovate UK, research grants)
  • Drive digital transformation and change management across servicesEnsure compliance with data governance, GDPR, and NHS frameworks
  • Manage innovation budgets and evaluate ROI on projects
  • Represent the Trust in regional and national innovation networks
Key Requirements

Significant senior leadership experience in:

  • Digital transformation / innovation / R&D within healthcare
  • Strong understanding of:
  • NHS systems and clinical pathways
  • AI, data analytics and emerging health technologies
  • Proven track record of:
  • Delivering large-scale innovation programmes (£1m+)
  • Building strategic partnerships and securing funding
  • Experience in:
  • Change management and leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Educated to Master's level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with NHS Innovation Accelerator or similar programmes
  • Knowledge of genomics, digital therapeutics, and remote monitoring
  • Commercial awareness including IP, licensing, and partnerships
  • Agile, PRINCE2, or other project/programme management qualifications
