Job Description

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Lead Back End developer for a 12 months Inside IR35 contract based Hybrid, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Blackpool, Sheffield, Birmingham.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:

. Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
. Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
. Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
. Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.

As a Lead Back End Developer, your main responsibilities will be:
. Lead the design and development of a modern cloud-based solution (AWS) to replace a Legacy system
. Build and deliver scalable microservices using Java (essential), with Node.js/Python/JavaScript
. Implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to enable continuous delivery
. Work with containerisation technologies (eg Docker/Kubernetes) in a modern engineering environment
. Collaborate on system architecture and technical design, ensuring alignment to best practices
. Develop secure, maintainable, high-quality code while mentoring engineers and driving engineering standards
