About Waythrough

Waythrough provides specialist support across mental health, alcohol, drugs and related areas. We deliver high-quality, evidence-based services designed around the real needs of the people we serve. Every year we support around 125,000 people through over 250 services, made possible by 3,500 staff and volunteers. Together Drug and Alcohol Service is the commissioned community drug and alcohol provision for Devon.

The Role

Volunteers in this role will facilitate or co facilitate regular SMART meetings. The position is suitable for individuals with lived experience of recovery or those who have supported a close friend or family member. We welcome anyone with an empathetic, non judgemental attitude who can build strong relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Share a group agreement at the start of each session, emphasizing respect and confidentiality.
  • Facilitate meetings according to the SMART Recovery UK structure - including check in, agenda setting, and check out.
  • Report any concerns, including safeguarding matters, that arise in the group.
  • Work closely with the group lead to plan and evaluate sessions.
  • Procure necessary resources such as flip chart, paper, pens, and set up before/pack up after each meeting.
  • Support the group lead with administrative tasks linked to the running of the SMART group, e.g. completing SMART audits or liaising with the Regional SMART Community Coordinator.
Qualifications & Personal Qualities
  • Welcoming, friendly, and able to put others at ease.
  • Confident and calm in group settings.
  • Good IT skills - all SMART Recovery UK training is electronic and requires email submissions.
  • Non judgemental towards people facing challenges, including drug, alcohol, or mental health issues.
  • Good time keeping and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of Waythrough (information available on our website).
  • Genuine interest in Waythrough's mission and vision.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to Waythrough policies, media guidelines, and engage in supervision.
