Job Description

IT/AV Technician

Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) - University of Sheffield. Permanent, full time, hybrid.

Overview

Provide second line IT and AV support to AMRC and AMRC Training Centre staff via help desk, phone, chat, email, and face to face. Support remote sites in Wales, Preston and Derby. Participate in procurement, asset management, and project support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to and resolve IT and AV queries in person, remotely, by phone and email.
  • Prioritise workloads with business impact and escalated problems as required.
  • Maintain and monitor general and specialist IT equipment, software and services.
  • Assist in the procurement of IT and AV hardware, software and services.
  • Support Windows and Linux systems maintenance.
  • Provide user hand overs and one to one training.
  • Contribute to high priority incidents, projects and first line duties when directed.
  • Travel to AMRC sites across the UK; valid UK driving licence required.
  • Carry out other duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in a team providing efficient IT support in a busy, customer focused environment.
  • Experience with 1st and 2nd line technical support in a large complex organisation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, Linux; primary focus on Windows.
  • Up to date knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with meeting and conference technologies and audio visual installations.
  • Understanding of patch management, cyber security principles, and Cyber Essentials+.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with academic, research and technical staff.
  • Experience with incident management tools such as TOPdesk.
  • Knowledge of Mobile Device and Endpoint Management technologies and OS imaging.
  • Experience building and maintaining a network of contacts and practice communities.
  • Compliance with university and AMRC health, safety, security, procurement and waste policies.
