We are recruiting a talented and experienced Cloud Engineer to join Public Health Wales Digital Services Cloud team. This role is crucial in maintaining, optimising and securing our cloud environments & infrastructure that support essential healthcare services. You will work with Azure cloud technologies, ensuring reliability, scalability and performance whilst maintaining compliance with NHS Wales security and governance standards.
You will be working alongside other technical service teams and report to the 365 Engineering Lead. The Cloud Engineer is a new, permanent role at Public Health Wales that will help contribute to the delivery of our cloud strategy.
Appropriate training plans will be provided for successful candidates to cloud based roles to enhance existing skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the jobAs Cloud Engineer, you will help shape our Azure cloud environments and assist in the delivery of associated roadmaps & strategies for Public Health and NHS Wales as we continue to invest in our digital capability.
Manage and support Azure resources and environments, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
Provide specialist IT technical knowledge to maintain, enhance, and secure the Trust's cloud infrastructure for clinical and non-clinical systems.
Act as a subject matter expert, leading implementation, knowledge transfer, and documentation to support team capability.

Job responsibilitiesPerson Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
Educated to degree level in computer science or related field or equivalent level of knowledge and skills
Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance regulations.
Excellent knowledge of building and configuring Azure environments.
Knowledge of Azure cost management tools and techniques for optimising cloud spending.
Experience
Advanced experience as a cloud engineer/consultant gained while working in an enterprise environment.
Implementing and scaling out Azure Landing Zone.
Experience of cloud networking, security and Azure Firewall.
Demonstrable experience in an IT role at third line tier within an enterprise environment.
Hands on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) projects.
Skills and Attributes
Enterprise scale technical experience with cloud security, hybrid infrastructures, secure architecture designs, and technology management.
Enterprise cloud infrastructure monitoring, administration, and remediation skills.
Enterprise scale technical experience with cloud security, hybrid infrastructures, secure architecture designs, and technology management.
Scripting skills using PowerShell, Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, terraform) or similar. Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
Advanced identity management design, administration, and support skills, namely Microsoft Entra (AzureAD).
Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Familiarity with Azure landing zone architectures and best practices for cloud adoption.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome
