As our Art, Design and Architecture Technician, you will be a key member of a well established and specialist Creative Industries team at our Wood Street Campus, providing technical support for Architecture and 3D Design provision. You will prepare and maintain workshops, studios and CAD facilities to a professional standard, guide students in the safe and effective use of tools, machinery and digital design equipment, and work closely with teaching staff to ensure lessons, assessments and projects run smoothly.

This is a part time (0.8 FTE) post offering a strong balance between independent technical responsibility and close collaboration with staff and students. You will contribute to enrichment activity, live projects and end of year exhibitions, playing a visible role in the presentation and impact of the programme. There are genuine opportunities to develop your technical expertise through working with a range of materials, machinery and digital fabrication tools alongside experienced teaching colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Workshop and studio preparation: Prepare, maintain and operate workshops, studios and CAD facilities to a professional standard, ensuring all spaces, tools, materials and digital equipment are safe, well resourced and ready for use.
  • Technical support and guidance: Provide specialist technical guidance to students and staff in the safe and effective use of tools, machinery and digital fabrication equipment, supporting practical activity in 3D model making, prototyping and spatial design.
  • CAD and digital tools: Support the use of CAD software and digital design workflows, including digital fabrication equipment such as laser cutters and 3D printers, ensuring facilities are set up to meet curriculum and industry expectations.
  • Equipment maintenance: Maintain tools, machinery, materials and digital resources through routine checks, basic repairs, fault reporting and inventory control, keeping resources reliable and fit for purpose.
  • Health and safety: Promote high standards of health and safety by supporting risk assessments, student inductions and consistent safe working practices across all studio and workshop areas.
  • Enrichment and exhibitions: Support live projects, end of year shows, exhibitions and enrichment activities, contributing to the realisation and professional presentation of student architectural and 3D work.
  • Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching staff to anticipate technical requirements, support lesson delivery and contribute to a positive, professional studio learning environment.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • A relevant qualification in Art, Architecture, 3D Design, Product Design or a related creative or technical discipline
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at Level 2
  • Practical experience supporting architecture, 3D design or model making activity
  • Experience working in studio and/or workshop environments
  • Experience using tools, machinery and materials for 3D construction and model making
  • Experience supporting students or working with young people in a practical setting
  • Strong practical knowledge of architecture focused 3D model making, materials and construction techniques
  • Competence using CAD software and digital design tools
  • Good understanding of health and safety procedures within workshops and studios
  • Organised, reliable and solutions focused with the ability to manage resources, spaces and technical requirements effectively
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding

Even Better If You Have

  • A higher level qualification in Architecture, Design or a construction related subject
  • Health and Safety, First Aid or workshop related certification
  • Experience working in an FE, school or education environment
  • Experience supporting UAL or architecture focused qualifications
  • Experience supporting exhibitions, shows or live projects
  • Experience with digital fabrication including laser cutting and 3D printing
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and processes
