SC Cleared Technical Architect - £525/day via Umbrella - 6 Month Contract - Gloucester - Hybrid - SCC Flex Contract

We are recruiting an experienced Technical Architect - Disaster Recovery Runbooks (SC Cleared) to design, develop and validate end-to-end disaster recovery runbooks for business-critical IT services. This is a key role for a Technical Architect - Disaster Recovery Runbooks who can translate Business Impact Analysis outputs into technically executable recovery solutions within a secure environment.

Your responsibilities as the Technical Architect - Disaster Recovery Runbooks:
  • Conduct detailed analysis of Business Impact Analysis (BIA) outputs to understand service criticality, RTO/RPO and recovery sequencing.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand application architectures, dependencies and failure modes.
  • Define minimum viable recovery (MVR/MVI) states for in-scope services.
  • Design robust, end-to-end disaster recovery approaches, including severe failure scenarios such as full environment loss.
  • Develop, test and refine service-specific DR runbooks, ensuring:
    • Clear recovery sequencing
    • Explicit decision points
    • Operational clarity under pressure
  • Lead structured walkthroughs and tabletop exercises to validate recovery logic and sequencing.
  • Identify gaps, risks and unrealistic recovery steps, owning refinement and issue resolution.
  • Provide formal handover of DR runbooks to Application Support teams, ensuring clarity of ownership and ongoing maintenance.
As a successful Technical Architect - Disaster Recovery Runbooks, you will have:
  • Proven hands-on experience designing and documenting end-to-end Disaster Recovery solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience creating DR runbooks from scratch where no prior artefacts existed.
  • Strong ability to interpret BIA outputs and translate them into executable technical recovery processes.
  • Solid understanding of DR concepts, patterns and best practices, including severe failure scenarios.
  • Practical experience defining and validating RTO/RPO-aligned recovery approaches.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, producing clear, structured and unambiguous runbooks.
  • Deep understanding of application architectures (monolith, microservices, SaaS, COTS) and infrastructure components.
  • Experience working across cloud and hybrid environments, including cloud recovery patterns.
  • Proven ability to lead tabletop exercises, walkthrough testing or recovery simulations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, working closely with Application Support SMEs, infrastructure teams and solution architects.
  • Current SC Clearance (mandatory).
