Overview
Monzo is a digital bank built by about 400 engineers. We design and build an in house banking platform that powers products used by millions. Our squads span core banking, payments, security, and more, working across disciplines from product to data science.
Responsibilities
As a backend engineer you will collaborate with product managers, designers, mobile and web engineers, and data analysts to build and maintain the services that power the Monzo experience. You will design API endpoints, write resilient distributed systems, and help drive the architecture of our platform.
Qualifications
- Strong experience building backend services for a technology product.
- Product mindset - care about customer outcomes and make data informed decisions.
- Comfortable working in an ambiguous, cross functional team.
- Interest in distributed systems and writing resilient software.
- Experience with strongly typed languages such as Go, Java, C, Scala, etc.
- A willingness to learn and be excited about the work we do.
Technologies you'll be working with
- Go for application code.
- AWS for most infrastructure and GCP for data.
- React for public web apps and internal tools.
- Interaction with physical datacentres and third party connections.
The interview process
- Initial call.
- Take home task or pair coding exercise.
- Final interview - system design and behavioural interview.
Compensation & benefits
- £95,000 - £130,000 base salary plus incentive awards.
