AI Engineer

We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to build the next generation of AI-powered learning experiences across the Panopto platform.

You will work in a startup-like environment inside a larger company, solve AI and systems challenges end-to-end, and help upskill other engineers along the way.

As an AI Engineer you will stand at the intersection of AI innovation and core product engineering. You will design the future of how millions learn, turning ambitious AI concepts into secure, scalable production systems. You will act with ownership by raising the bar for AI engineering, mentoring engineers into AI bridge engineers, and ensuring our technology delivers clarity over complexity. You will also contribute to other initiatives that advance our core values.

• Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Define technical direction and architecture for AI-powered features across Panopto, focusing on maintainability, scalability, and cost control.
  • Lead the design and implementation of AI integrations (e.g., Anthropic, MCP, other LLM providers) and platform capabilities reusable across product areas.
  • Establish patterns and best practices for prompt design, evaluation workflows, safety guardrails, and observability for AI-driven features.
• Hands-On AI Engineering
  • Build end-to-end AI solutions from exploring models and APIs to data flows, services, and customer-facing experiences.
  • Lead hands-on prototyping and delivery of AI-centric initiatives, turning ideas into validated prototypes and scalable production systems.
  • Own experiments and prototypes through production-quality implementations, including performance, reliability, and monitoring.
• Enablement & Mentorship
  • Pair with engineers, review designs, and share best practices for AI engineering and applied LLM usage.
  • Help classical software engineers become AI bridge engineers with LLMs, evaluation, and data pipelines while maintaining solid fundamentals.
  • Contribute to internal documentation and reference implementations to ease adoption of AI capabilities.
• Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with product management to shape AI initiatives into problems, MVPs, and iterative delivery plans.
  • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and operations teams to meet standards for security, privacy, compliance, and availability.
  • Provide guidance on where automation and tooling are appropriate versus organizational process or policy.

Join a highly collaborative group of agile engineering teams that power essential parts of the Panopto platform. While this role does not include direct people management, you will provide central technical leadership and mentorship, influencing how AI is woven into the product.

• Within 6 months: Audit AI prototype pipeline and identify the greatest technical hurdle to a seamless customer experience.
• Within 1 year: Deploy a high-impact optimization to a core AI feature (e.g., improved search) with measurable user engagement gains.
• Your Legacy: Own end-to-end lifecycle of a major AI initiative and mentor at least two engineers into AI-fluent contributors.

Salary: $130,000 - $140,000 USD per year. This position is eligible for a bonus as part of the compensation package. Base pay varies by factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
