Linux Infrastructure Engineer - Contract
Rate: £745 per day Inside IR35/PAYE
Duration: Initial 6 months, with long-term extension potential

Clearance: Active and transferable DV clearance required
We are looking for an experienced Linux Infrastructure Engineer to support a secure, business-critical infrastructure environment. This role will suit someone with strong Linux administration experience who is confident building, maintaining, securing and supporting production systems.
You will be working as part of a technical infrastructure team, supporting critical services, improving platform reliability and contributing to ongoing infrastructure upgrades and operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Linux infrastructure support across production environments.
Build, configure, patch, upgrade and maintain Linux Servers.
Support infrastructure life cycle management, availability and reliability.
Use automation tooling to improve repeatability and operational efficiency.
Investigate and resolve incidents, problems and technical issues.
Support change activity, planned maintenance and service improvements.
Apply Linux security hardening, vulnerability remediation and access control.
Work with networking, storage, virtualisation, monitoring and backup technologies.
Participate in an operational rota where required.
Produce and maintain clear technical documentation.
Essential Skills
Strong Linux administration experience across distributions such as RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, Rocky, AlmaLinux or SUSE.
Server build, configuration, patching, upgrades and life cycle management.
Automation experience with Ansible.
Scripting experience with Bash; Python would be beneficial.
Linux security hardening, vulnerability remediation and access control.
Good understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and Firewalls.
Storage knowledge including LVM, NFS, SMB, SAN/NAS or multipathing.
Virtualisation experience with VMware, KVM or Hyper-V.
Monitoring and logging experience with tools such as Splunk, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, Nagios or Zabbix.
Backup, restore, disaster recovery and high availability experience.
Identity integration experience including Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, SSH, sudo or PAM.
Experience supporting production environments using incident and change management processes.
Desirable Skills
Cloud or hybrid platform experience, such as Azure, AWS or Azure Stack.
Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform.
Container platform experience with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
Git-based working practices.
Security Requirements
Candidates must hold active and transferable DV clearance.
Sole British nationality is required for this position.
