Lead Technical Architect - Platforms Tooling - AWS CDK, TypeScript
£750/day | 6 months | Hybrid (2 days/week Manchester)
SC clearance - Due to delivery urgency, candidates must hold active SC clearance or have transferable SC clearance.
We are looking for a Lead Technical Architect to drive the design and build of internal tooling and internal platforms within a fast moving delivery environment. This is a hands-on technical architecture role - not an Enterprise Architect position.
The Role
You will work closely with engineers, product, and delivery teams to design and evolve scalable internal platforms, while remaining actively involved in writing production-quality code. This role suits someone who has grown through an engineering-led career path and is comfortable leading by example.
You will:
Lead the technical architecture for internal tools and platform services
Work directly alongside engineers, contributing code where required
Define and communicate architectural vision, patterns, and standards
Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and cloud-native
Collaborate with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
Essential Skills Experience
Strong experience with:
o JavaScript/TypeScript
o Node.js
o Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK
Deep AWS experience, especially:
o Designing and building large, multi-account, serverless architectures
o Leveraging cloud-native AWS services
Solid understanding of web-based authentication and authorisation, including:
o OAuth 2.0
o OIDC
Background as a software engineer prior to moving into architecture
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain architectural decisions to:
o Engineers
o Product and delivery teams
o Senior internal and external stakeholders
Desirable (Not Essential)
AWS Certification (eg Solutions Architect or similar)
If you're a hands-on Technical Architect who still enjoys building, guiding teams through real-world engineering challenges, and shaping internal platforms from the ground up, this role will suit you well.
