Infrastructure Migration Engineer

Overview

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure professional to lead a major on premises modernisation project. The role focuses on migrating our clients existing VMware environment to a new Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) platform, coordinating a mix of internal and third party resources and overseeing related Azure and file share migrations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the migration of VMware resources to a new HCI stack (Dell hardware).

Oversee the initial migration of 5 VMs completed by our third party partner

Manage and support the internal team in migrating the remaining VMs.

Oversee file share migrations from legacy on prem servers to Azure File Server (AFS).

Streamline Azure infrastructure by:

• Removing Network Virtual Appliances (NVA)
• Implementing Network Security Groups (NSGs).
• Adjusting vNets and configuring the Azure Firewall.
• Identify opportunities to migrate or decommission services where appropriate (e.g. direct migration to Azure PaaS).
• Ensure all changes align with internal standards, security policies, and best practice configurations.

Ideal Experience

• Proven background in VMware environments (vCenter, vSphere, etc.) and HCI migrations.
• Strong understanding of Azure infrastructure, networking, and security (NSGs, vNets, firewalls).
• Experience working with third-party vendors and coordinating internal technical teams.
• Knowledge of Windows Server environments, file share migrations, and decommissioning legacy systems.
• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management and documentation skills.
