We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with an in depth knowledge of SQL to our team of Software Engineers. The team run the technical infrastructure applications that are responsible for coordinating pay for veterans. They complete data fixes on JPA, the support of archived preserved data for Management Information (MI) purposes and the data loading activities associated with refreshing the Virtual Training Environments.

The service was formed in 2007 to provide harmonised administration services and accurate processing of pay, allowances, and pensions to the veterans' communities. IT looks to modernise the way the Client carry out pay administration, based on the introduction of policy and regulations supported by new administration processes and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software.

The role is Hybrid with two days per week based in our Gosport office and 3 days remote.

What you'll be doing:
  • Manage SQL scripts, collaborating closely with ORACLE on the content of scripts and running scripts on JPA.
  • Producing paperwork for RCB, updating dimensions, creating DBA requests, obtaining customer approval for the changes, Liaising with the functional team members during process.
  • Assist with the resolution of queries raised with the Data Team and other teams.
  • Maintain reference data as supplied approved agencies from the Authority, taking them through the Release Control Board (RCB) process.
  • Maintain accurate figures for work carried out against the Measure of Performance identifiers.
  • Correction of bulk corrupt records, including, creating GFF or SQL correction scripts.
  • Maintain Serena Incidents for the team.
  • Create Data Loader scripts.
  • Interrogate the DPR using SQL to formulate responses to customer queries.
  • Advise on matters relating to VTE, DPR and DPRR as required.

The team is growing as workload increases and therefore there may be responsibility to deliver training and support to newer members of the team in the future.

What you'll Bring:
  • Experience working with Oracle / JPA
  • Knowledge of writing SQL Scripts
  • SQL and PL experience
  • Ability to prioritise and facilitate large workloads.

It would be great if you had:
  • Prior experience working with a government client.
