Are you a Junior Linux Engineer with an interest in Defence looking to further your career?

A Linux engineer is required to join the Linux team within the server team operational umbrella. The individual should be diligent in their work and able to work as part of a busy a diverse team, delivering day to day effort alongside project workload where required. We are looking for someone who wants to build on their Linux systems and service understanding, or to take their first step and apply a basic understanding into their new job role.

Responsibilities:
  • Basic Linux understanding and a working knowledge of the linux O/S (Centos/Redhat preferred)
  • Report and technically assist with the management of the linux environments, ensuring service is running and available
  • Maintain knowledge on technical subjects relevant to role
  • Ensure Change management is followed at all times
  • Exposure to an ITIL environment would be an advantage

Essential Skills:
  • The Infrastructure Engineer will have good working knowledge of their technology area.
  • Good working knowledge and experience of associated infrastructure engineering tools, techniques, methods within their specialist area.
  • Demonstrable experience of working as an Infrastructure Engineer on small or medium sized software engineering projects.
  • Infrastructure skills covering administration, fault finding/diagnosis and fix.
  • Experience within a customer support environment.
  • Documentation Skills, with the ability to produce documents for use by an end user, as well as operational procedure documentation for use by service desk personnel.
  • Extensive work experience in infrastructure Management
  • Experienced in MS Exchange 2010\16 Experienced in VMWare\ HyperV \ ESX Experienced In Remote access \ VPN Experienced in Windows Server 2012 \ 2016 AD \ GPO \ PowerShell

Desirable Skills:
  • Experience of: File/Print Clusters an advantage, enterprise level thin client environments an advantage, messaging systems an advantage, working to tight SLA's
    Accreditation to MCP level or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Computer Sciences
