Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Junior Infrastructure Engineer will provide support for NHS SBS' core IT infrastructure. The IT Infrastructure team is responsible for the PC, server and network infrastructure across all NHS SBS locations

As part of the Infrastructure Services organisation, the Junior Infrastructure Engineer will also be involved in rollout and upgrade projects, along with the deployment of hardware and software to NHS SBS employees.

1 or 2 days per week will typically be spent in the Southampton office, with the remaining time at home. Travel to other NHS SBS offices may occasionally be required, along with some flexibility in working outside of normal business hours.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide support for the NHS SBS infrastructure
  • Take responsibility for allocated calls - own to a satisfactory conclusion or escalate if appropriate
  • Provide effective communication both internally within the team and externally to users, suppliers and customers
  • To work on infrastructure requests and changes required as assigned.
  • To maintain and develop knowledge, skills and competencies in agreed areas
  • Follow defined procedures to manage the release of infrastructure change into production, including testing and change control

Essential Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - to provide effective communication both within the IT team and externally to users and suppliers
  • Good knowledge of Windows 10, PCs, Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working in a customer facing/ support environment

Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (2012, 2016, 2019), Hyper-V, Active Directory
  • Awareness/ knowledge of cloud technologies - eg Microsoft Azure
