System Engineer (Azure and Vmware) required to join a blue light service with offices in Oxfordshire.

As the System Engineer (Azure and Vmware) you will be involved in design, planning, delivery, implementation and support of infrastructure services within the Joint ICT Department. You will be involved in complex design and installation projects undertaking peer review including architectural review and quality assurance boards to help drive the innovation and adoption of cloud solutions and services within Joint ICT. You will be required to ensure that operational problems are identified and resolved to support delivery of agreed service levels, within the ITIL framework providing outstanding customer service and outcomes to their customers.

Main duties

• Providing 3rd line support for a large, distributed server infrastructure, mainly Microsoft Windows, with a focus on the compliance of the server infrastructure.

• Operation, configuration and lifecycle management of server compliance toolsets across a multi-domain environment, hosted on VMware vSphere and Microsoft Azure.

• Remediation of discovered server vulnerabilities.

• Producing server compliance reports for management and customers.

• Broad experience of physical, virtual server and cloud-based server build and configuration best practise that will assist in vulnerability avoidance.

• Document best practise and known vulnerability fixes.

The essential skills required:

• Practical experience in the support and maintenance of a large Windows Server estate, in a multi-domain environment, hosted on VMware vSphere and Microsoft Azure.

• Good understanding of server hardware and physical server configuration.

• Practical experience of operating system build processes, including VMware templates, physical servers and Azure hosted servers.

• Operational experience of securing Microsoft Windows Server and the associated compliance reporting.

• Practical experience of interpreting Active Directory Group Policy.

• Must have strong communication skills including experience in communicating to different levels.

• Ability to produce high quality technical documentation including;

• Standard operating procedures
• Knowledge base articles
• Detailed troubleshooting documentation

• Experience working in an ITIL focussed environment with a good understanding of the incident, service request and change management processes.

Desirable technical skills:

• Operational experience of Tenable.sc and/or Symantec Data Center Security
