Senior Software Engineer

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer Salary: £30,000- £39,000 per annum dependent on experience Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire A position has become available to join a growing engineering company as a Senior Software Engineer based in Bedford. Our client is a pioneer in Autonomy and Unmanned Systems, renowned for their innovation in the delivery of technical solutions in this domain, working with Aerospace and Defence Primes, SME’s and Academia. The role of the Senior Software Engineer is to support product development and R&D activities as the company is continuously developing within core areas such as UAV autopilots, mission systems, ground control stations and all supporting systems and infrastructure. Main Responsibilities: * Primarily, this role will be to design, develop and test software systems to support both experimental activities and product development. Specifically, this will include the harmonisation of real time avionics databases used both on-board and off-board aircraft. * You will be responsible for delivery, reporting and presentation of technical work and writing and submitting any necessary documentation. * General tasks related to business delivery (e.g. contributions to experimental procedures). * *The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. You will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your evolving role within the company and the overall business objectives of the company. Benefits: * Basic salary up to £39,000 per annum * 25 holiday days plus bank holidays * Pension scheme * Cycle to Work Scheme * Childcare vouchers * Early finish every Friday About You: Essential: * Able to demonstrate systems engineering experience, technical competency in high level languages, a can-do attitude and a genuine passion for innovative technology. * Fully competent in software engineering or a technical field and previous experience of software development. * Able to demonstrate a proven track record in both problem solving and quality software development. * You will need to be comfortable working within a team and in a multidisciplinary environment and have good communication skills. * Full lifecycle development * Java, GUI SQL Databases * Database design, implementation and maintenance * Linux and Windows development * Multi-threading experience Desirable: * PostgreSQL * Geographic Information Systems (GIS) * Hibernate * GUI * Service orientated architectures * Agile methods (Scrum or similar) Please note that in order to apply for this role you will need to be eligible for SC (Secret Level) UK Security Clearance.
