This role will be mainly remote but require flexibility to travel to client sites, and our offices based in London, Sheffield, and Bristol.
About The Role
As a Senior Microsoft Power Platform and AI Developer, you will work with users, product teams, engineers, architects, security and operational colleagues to turn complex needs into reliable services. You will take technical ownership of significant components and end-to-end solutions and guide decisions across low-code, pro-code, integration and AI patterns.
A major part of the role is engineering AI agents and agentic workflows. You will design how agents use trusted knowledge, approved tools, Model Context Protocol (MCP) services, approvals, human hand-offs and safe failure paths. You will ensure that evaluation, observability, identity, permissions and data boundaries are built into delivery rather than added later.
You will review code and designs, mentor developers, improve engineering practices and support live services. You should be able to challenge inappropriate use of low-code or AI and select a simpler or more supportable approach where evidence supports it.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, build, test, deployment and support of solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio and appropriate pro-code extensions
- Engineer AI agents and agentic workflows using trusted knowledge, tools, actions, approvals, human hand-offs, evaluation and safe failure paths
- Design and implement integrations with approved MCP Servers and lead development of MCP tools or services using secure, reusable patterns
- Integrate Power Platform and AI solutions with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Graph, Azure services and enterprise systems using connectors, APIs and event-based patterns
- Apply grounding, retrieval-augmented generation, structured outputs, tool calling and model-selection patterns with appropriate evaluation and operational controls
- Create custom connectors, plug-ins and Azure-hosted components where low-code capability is insufficient, choosing technologies based on need, risk and supportability
- Set and apply engineering standards for source control, solution packaging, environment strategy, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and release management
- Lead technical investigation of complex live-service faults and improve resilience, performance, accessibility, security and observability
- Review designs and code, mentor developers and contribute reusable components, patterns and learning to the wider engineering community
Requirements
- Substantial hands-on experience designing, building and releasing production solutions with Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse and Copilot Studio
- Experience leading development of AI agents or agentic workflows that use knowledge, tools and actions to complete meaningful tasks safely
- Experience integrating or developing MCP Servers and tools, or equivalent tool-based agent integration patterns, including troubleshooting identity, permissions and data flow
- Strong API and integration skills, including REST/JSON, custom connectors, OAuth 2.0, Microsoft Entra ID and secure secrets management
- Pro-code engineering capability in one or more languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript, C# or Python, with experience extending low-code services appropriately
- Strong software engineering practice, including testing, version control, code review, documentation, CI/CD, observability and supporting live services
- Ability to lead technical decisions for medium-to-high complexity work, communicate trade-offs and escalate architecture or security risks appropriately
- Practical understanding of security, data protection, accessibility and responsible AI controls for enterprise applications and agents
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure AI services or comparable cloud components
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, embeddings, enterprise search and evaluation of grounded responses
- Experience with agent observability, tracing, prompt and version management, red teaming or automated quality and safety testing
- Experience integrating Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Power BI, Fabric or other Microsoft enterprise services
- Experience defining Power Platform environment, solution, data-loss-prevention and application life cycle management patterns
- Relevant Microsoft certifications, or experience delivering technology in government, justice, regulated or security-conscious environments
This role will require you to have or be willing to go through Security Clearance. As part of the onboarding process candidates will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard; details of the evidence required to apply may be found on the government website. If you are unable to meet this and any associated criteria, then your employment may be delayed, or rejected. Details of this will be discussed with you at interview.
