Position Concept

Provision of all-round engineering support, maintaining the Operational Assets at Client Data Centres. You should have a detailed understanding of all new or current building services systems and contingency procedures within the buildings, and comply with the Health & Safety and building codes of practice. You will be responsible for ensuring that all Engineering Operational activities within the Campus are controlled and that they are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety, business risk, and maintaining the 100% uptime criteria.

Out of hours, you will be the authorised person on site for HV & LV operations. Responsible for maintaining excellent standards of response to Asset performance, completion of assigned work, and ensuring any abnormal operating conditions and housekeeping issues are dealt with proficiently. The Shift Lead is a key position to oversee the coordination of all operational visitors to the Client Data Centre campus. You will be responsible for coordinating work permits for the SSPs and escalating, where necessary, approval of permits that can affect business-critical systems.

You will closely monitor the Risk Assessments and Supplier activities on the campus and ensure they follow current H&S legislation. This position will also monitor the closure of the permits and provide the business with an 'end of business report' of outstanding permits. Scheduling, closing off PPMs, and entering reactive works to the planned preventative maintenance system will also be part of the position. It is the Shift Lead's role to act as a coordination point for the day-to-day activities, on site, of the Operations Team, specialist service partners, and other support teams, ensuring that the conduct of all personnel under your control is safe, professional, and diligent.

You will also be responsible for overseeing the Safe Systems of Work, enforcing Health and Safety legislation guidelines for the sites, and updating, when necessary, the risk assessments associated with any work-related maintenance routines on site. Your role ensures Quality Assurance audit procedures for the engineering tools, ladders, equipment, PPE, and regular checks and inspections are completed. Reporting to the Building Supervisor, you will oversee all HV/LV activities during your shift with support from the Technical Manager and Building Supervisor.

Your line manager will be a Building Supervisor with a dotted line into the Technical Manager. You will be responsible for the Shared Service Day Team: Install Engineer, Day Electrician, Shift Relief Engineer, and Maintenance Technician. You will coordinate and conduct the necessary site inductions and maintain a record of the people involved.

Key Tasks Duties to include:
  • Provide sickness and holiday cover for your equivalent opposite shift team member.
  • Responsible for managing and controlling the Permit systems and safe systems of work for the campus.
  • Monitor the PPM system and update plant records and assets as and when required.
  • First point of escalation during your shift.
  • Ensure current health and safety legislation is carried out on site.
  • Ownership of inspection logs for access and lifting equipment to ensure QA processes are maintained and auditable.
  • Complete, in conjunction with the Operations Manager, the Monthly Permit report, ensuring that significant events or activities as well as areas of concern are noted in the report.
  • Monitor critical areas for cleanliness, ensuring plant rooms and equipment are regularly checked, cleaned, and maintained.
  • Assist, produce, and construct the current Risk Assessments, which are used throughout all Client, Cody Park.
  • Ensure quality is maintained throughout the facilities.
  • Ensure that all work is inspected prior to the closure of work permits in conjunction with the engineering team.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and manage the engineering team to undertake PPM or reactive works in accordance with the agreed timescale, providing technical support and guidance for the engineering team.
  • Allocate PPM tasks to the engineering team.
  • Operate all systems within the buildings in a competent, effective, and efficient manner (including HV operations).
  • Control all activities being undertaken within the campus buildings. Liaise with Site Personnel to make them aware of Specialist Service Provider visits; prepare and have approved Standard Operating Procedures/PTW in advance of these visits.
  • Ensure that Specialist Service Provider (SSP) worksheets are signed off where necessary, that the quality of work has been inspected, and recommendations are escalated to the Site Management Team.
  • Maintain effective shift handovers including critical plant status, plant isolations, issues arising, ongoing works, special task requests, and standard of housekeeping.
  • Ensure any parts required are clearly and accurately stated and any difficulties encountered on engineering activities are reported to the Building Supervisor.
  • Ensure plant areas, workshops, stores, and rest areas are kept to the highest level of housekeeping.
  • Ensure the SSP complies with the contractual service level agreements (SLAs).
Personal Attributes
  • Level 3 Engineer.
  • HV Authorised Person.
  • C&G Pts. 1 & 2, equivalent or exceeds.
  • Permit to Work AP qualified.
  • 18th Edition IEE: Wiring and Installation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding and be technically competent in all building services, in particular UPS, Generators, Bladerooms, Water Treatment, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team of technicians/operatives.
  • Proactive in achieving the highest standard of operation.
  • Good IT and reporting skills.

  • Advanced communication skills with a full understanding of customer needs & expectations.

  • Individuals who can demonstrate leadership and experience but may not meet all the required technical qualifications may be considered subject to client approval. Training will be required in this instance.
