Role Overview
Reporting to the Street Lighting Manager, you will support technical design solutions for exterior lighting across a range of projects including trunk roads, housing estates, public realm, decorative lighting, feature lighting and EV Chargers. The position involves site surveys, inspections, client meetings and team project progress meetings. The role is hybrid office/homeworking.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare reports, feasibility studies, designs, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Communicate clearly and develop technical credibility with clients, fostering partner relationships.
- Liaise with engineers, technicians and other disciplines.
- Conduct site surveys and inspections.
- Assist in preparation of estimates.
- Design lighting projects following relevant standards and codes of practice.
- Create electrical designs for private cable networks as per applicable standards.
- Liaise with clients, electricity suppliers, contractors, professional organisations, sub consultants and other design teams.
- Support production of Environmental Lighting Impact Assessment reports, Economic Assessment reports and Business Cases.
- Assist with night time lighting assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent demonstrable practical experience.
- Completed or working towards the Institution of Lighting Professional Exterior Lighting Diploma.
- Registered with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer with membership of the ILP.
- Proficiency with lighting design software, particularly Lighting Reality.
- Experience or practical knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Highways Agency DMRB and MCHDW standards, BS5489, BSEN 13201, BS7671 and ILP technical reports/guidance documents.
- Highly motivated, able to work with limited supervision.
- Approachable and personable, building positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- IT literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
