Senior Solutions Engineer - Position Overview
Senior Solutions Engineer responsible for day to day provision, management and support of local air gapped IT infrastructure at Ultra Intelligence & Communications Cyber's Cyber Centre of Excellence in Maidenhead, with the option to work primarily at a second site in Farnborough. The role requires eligibility for the relevant security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the programs.
The successful candidate will build a brand new platform from the ground up, support its operation, and continuously improve processes and standards while reducing costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and optimise on premises VDI environment, ensuring high performance, security and outstanding user experience.
- Lead migration and enhancement projects for VDI platforms to next generation technologies.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Service Delivery and third party vendors to integrate new technologies and drive continuous service improvement.
- Ensure VDI environment complies with security standards, data protection regulations and best practices.
- Oversee incident and change management workflows using service platforms.
- Maintain and upgrade core infrastructure (servers, networks, systems) in line with compliance and certification requirements (NIST, ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
- Deliver strategic projects to improve IT services and system efficiency.
- Coordinate backup, DR and BC plans, including annual "live" testing.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and advise on required solutions and succession planning.
- Create proposals for IT improvement and project requirements, and liaise on annual budgeting.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure or solutions engineering.
- Ability to obtain/maintain the required level of security clearance.
- Strong conflict resolution skills within a direct team and cross functionally, including external vendors.
- Experience in a global enterprise environment.
- Independent problem solving and project management aptitude.
Technical Expertise Requirements
- Depth in VDI technologies (Omnissa Horizon or equivalent) and user profile management, including FSLogix or similar tools.
- Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure (e.g., Nutanix HCI) or server hardware in a data centre environment.
- Administration of Dell Thin Clients and Wyse Management Server.
- Development of Windows11 and Ubuntu desktop gold images, plus application provisioning in virtualised environments.
- Expertise in virtualisation, storage, networking, and security across multi site or multi region environments.
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (PowerShell, etc.) to optimise workflows and reporting.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes, incident and change management, continuous service improvement.
- Knowledge of Office365, Azure, Intune, SCCM, M365, Exchange and Microsoft environments.
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the programs, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance. British Citizens with at least five years of UK residence for SC clearance (or ten years for DV clearance) are required.
