Role & Responsibilities

MCTS is a sophisticated and versatile training platform used by the Royal Navy providing state of the art classroom and simulation training facilities delivering maritime warfare training in controlled environments. MCTS Maintainers play a pivotal role in ensuring training equipment is prepared and ready for use; defects are promptly addressed; spares are controlled; and Customer KPI requirements are met on a daily basis.

  • Accountable directly to the MCTS Lead Maintainer; work individually and as part of a dual site team.
  • Prepare assigned training spaces/equipment for training to meet "Ready for Training" requirements as specified in the Agreed Training Schedule.
  • Maintain TE hardware, assure availability and serviceability of in use TE in assigned spaces.
  • Assist wider team as required/available. Includes fault/defect diagnosis; LRU replacement.
  • Undertake general, routine, preventative and corrective maintenance activities for MCTS systems.
  • Administer system tasks across the range of MCTS training equipment - updates, patches, data logging, password control and administration of Learning Management Systems.
  • Rapidly respond to defects arising on in use TE to minimise training downtime - key Customer KPI.
  • Use bespoke Hardware Management System to log and report defects/shortfalls; assist in compilation of technical spares management data and records.
  • Ensure compliance with Company health, safety and environmental procedures and champion EHS culture.
  • Any other duties required to complete the Training Equipment Service.
Required Experience
  • Previous experience configuring, installing, maintaining a range of software; system start up and shutdown.
  • Working knowledge of SUSE Linux, Solaris, HP UX, Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 Administration.
  • CompTIA Network A+, CompQat/ICX, MCSA on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (or later), Novell Certified Linux Engineer 10 or equivalent.
  • Ability to interface with outfitted systems to undertake expected system administration and management functions.
  • Analytical skills to assess defects/technical issues and report into logging and analysis tools.
  • Experienced in spares/logistics tasks associated with spares management.
  • Knowledge and experience managing and maintaining technical training equipment portfolios, including networks, across multiple locations.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Desirable Experience
  • Awareness of RN warfare equipment and methodologies.
  • Maintain and assure provision of Video teleconference links between remotely linked sites.
  • PAT testing competency.
