What's Exciting About the Role
Verifone is seeking an experienced MySQL lead who will be responsible for ensuring database performance, high availability, and security of MySQL clusters and single instances. You will orchestrate upgrades, backups, HA/DR, and provisioning of database instances, collaborating closely with application architects, senior developers, and support engineers to design optimized database solutions.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for ensuring that database management policies, processes, and procedures are established and followed, aligning with ITIL best practices and PCI standards. You will review system design changes, liaise with release management and support teams, and maintain stable performance and security.
- Design, install, deploy, and manage MySQL on physical, virtual, AWS EC2, RDS, or Aurora instances.
- Build high availability, active active clusters in large scale, multi datacenter environments with minimal RPO/RTO.
- Implement uniform backup strategies and business continuity plans using Percona XtraDB or custom automation scripts.
- Define comprehensive database monitoring, alerting, and documentation.
- Set up master master or master slave replication for high availability.
- Maintain performance through server optimizations.
- Guide engineering teams on best practices for server configuration and SQL tuning.
- Ensure security and compliance via OS and database version upgrades.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create effective database solutions.
- Create and maintain ad hoc reports.
- Adhere to incident and change processes with thorough documentation and peer review.
- Support application release processes and automation.
- Mentor and develop other engineers on MySQL skills.
Required Qualifications/Skills
- Minimum 8 years of experience managing MySQL.
- Experience with MySQL active/active cluster setups, upgrades, migrations, and scripting.
- Proficiency in Linux based MySQL administration.
- Experience with zero or minimal downtime upgrades in production.
- Designing and architecting MySQL environments using Galera Cluster or Percona XtraDB.
- Deployment of database monitoring using PMM, New Relic, Datadog, Nagios, Grafana, ELK, or AppD.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS RDS.
- Automation and scripting in Python, Shell, Go, Java, or Rust.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab.
- Advanced database performance tuning, SQL optimization, hardware configuration, and capacity planning.
- Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and time management skills.
Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory)
- PCI (Payment Card Industry Data Security) standards experience.
- ITIL environment experience.
- Deep experience with SQL, stored procedures, triggers, batch jobs, reporting, and analytics.
- Experience managing PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and/or Oracle.
- Experience with NoSQL and data engineering technologies such as Kafka, Redis, Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, Redshift, and ETL.
- Experience with data analytics and business intelligence.
