Overview

The Role: For six months you will be part of the University's Server and Storage team, providing backfill while the team focuses on cloud modernisation work and project work. The team is responsible for the university data centres and cloud. The successful candidate will be able to self-manage their time and work on projects without micromanagement. An interest in the cloud and being trained in cloud skills is desirable. The role also involves continuing to manage an on premises server environment in the short to near term.

Responsibilities
  • Provide backfill for the Server and Storage team while cloud modernisation and project work proceed.
  • Manage and operate the on premises server environment; work with autonomy and minimal supervision.
  • Engage in cloud-related training and development; where applicable, support the ongoing cloud modernisation efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with service owners across the university to coordinate activities and expectations.

Qualifications
  • Experience as a systems administrator (sysadmin), with Windows and/or Linux; preferably both.
  • Interest in cloud technologies and willingness to be trained in cloud skills. Cloud experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Knowledge of managing large server environments; understanding of data centres, hardware, automation, and VMware is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of project teams; strong communication skills are essential.

  • Directory/Function: The Directorate for Finance, HR, and Infrastructure supports the University's strategic and operational success.
  • Contract: This is a full time, fixed term position for 6 months with a starting salary of £50,160 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting).
