About the Role You'll be joining a knowledgeable and approachable team who are passionate about developing new talent and helping colleagues build successful careers in tax.

As a Personal Tax ATT Trainee, you'll become part of our experienced Personal Tax team, supporting a wide variety of clients whilst learning the technical and professional skills needed to build a successful career in tax.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the preparation of personal tax returns.
  • Supporting the preparation of Benefits in Kind returns (P11Ds).
  • Assisting with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements and supporting clients as the tax system continues to evolve.
  • Liaising with HMRC regarding clients' tax affairs.
  • Managing correspondence from HMRC and ensuring client records remain accurate.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the Personal Tax department through a range of administrative and compliance activities.
  • Assisting colleagues and Directors with tax related queries and projects.
  • Communicating professionally with clients, HMRC and colleagues.
  • Developing your technical knowledge through practical experience and structured learning.
A Typical Week No two weeks are the same. During a typical week you could be:
  • Preparing personal tax returns with support from senior colleagues.
  • Assisting with Making Tax Digital (MTD) work and helping clients adapt to new reporting requirements.
  • Speaking with clients and HMRC.
  • Learning how UK tax legislation applies in practice.
  • Supporting the preparation of Benefits in Kind returns (P11Ds).
  • Assisting members of the Personal Tax team with client projects.
  • Building your technical knowledge through practical experience, mentoring and professional development.
As your confidence and knowledge grow, you'll gradually take on increasing responsibility and become involved in a wider range of client work.

About You Technical knowledge can be taught. We're looking for someone with the right attitude, genuine curiosity, a willingness to learn and a desire to become an active member of our team.

You'll ideally have:
  • A genuine interest in accountancy and taxation.
  • Excellent communication and numerical skills.
  • Strong IT skills. Experience of CCH Tax software would be beneficial but isn't essential.
  • An interest in technology and how digital tools, including Making Tax Digital (MTD), are shaping the future of tax.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your workload effectively.
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive approach to becoming involved in office life and contributing to the wider Ward Williams team.
