Job Purpose

The Associate Analyst Developer supports the design, development, implementation and maintenance of the University's business information systems in accordance with University objectives.

This is a unique opportunity to join the friendly and experienced Enterprise Systems team, based in the Information Services Directorate, the team is responsible for providing key software solutions to University staff and students.

We are looking for a self-motivated candidate who displays initiative and has an enthusiasm for technology. You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with experience of working in a professional IT environment providing customer focused services.

Developing systems which operate across the administrative, teaching and research functions of the University to assist in delivering solutions which maximise service quality and efficiency and meet service standards and requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Gather and analyse business requirements in order to develop solutions which maximise service quality, efficiency, and continuity.
2. Collaborate with senior developers, business analysts, and other team members to develop systems and integrations that deliver solutions which meet operational and user requirements.
3. Prepare detailed design specifications and technical documentation following standard templates.
4. Contribute to testing of central University systems, analysing results to highlight any issues and maintain robust and efficient solutions. Adhere to the University's change management and release processes to ensure continuity of services for users.
5. Provide system support, monitoring systems to ensure availability and performance. Resolve day to day and more complex or unforeseen technical and business-related issues, referring requests only where there may be a wider impact on other systems.
6. Apply a detailed understanding of standard procedures and guidelines to provide user support and a high standard of customer service at all times. Work with colleagues to provide input to user and help guides and deliver user demonstrations and familiarisation sessions on the solutions that have been developed.
7. Adhere to University policies, IT Services technical working procedures, professional standards and handle sensitive information and data held for all University staff with a very high degree of confidentiality and discretion adhering to data protection legislation.
8. Plan and prioritise daily and monthly workload in line with short and medium-term team targets and system roadmaps. Provide updates at daily stand ups and manage tasks using the tracking software.
9. Apply the principles of security by design, adhere to security policies, and run security tests according to established working procedures.
10. Responsible for keeping specialist knowledge relevant through self-learning, on the job training and conferences.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar role(s) Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Detailed specialist knowledge of full stack web application development technologies, including Java, Hibernate, Spring Framework.

A3 Knowledge of development tools including code repositories, IDEs, continuous integration, and unit test tools.

Desirable:

B1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9/10 (Ordinary/Honours Degree).

B2 Awareness of Freedom of Information (FOI) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation.

B3 Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements including WCAG standard.

B4 Knowledge of Agile working practices.

Essential:

C1 Strong analytical and problem solving skills to logically investigate a wide variety of technical problems and devise technical solutions and/or provide a satisfactory resolution.

C2 Methodical and accurate approach with the ability to pay close attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.

C5 Effective at planning, organising and prioritising own work independently within strict deadlines for the months ahead.

C6 Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.

C7 Exercise initiative and judgement within pre determined guidelines and technical remit to ensure effective service delivery.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Demonstrable experience applying acquired knowledge and skills to develop technical solutions that provide value and meet user requirements.

E2 Experience of planning daily workload and using own judgement to estimate task delivery times.

E3 Experience working in a professional IT environment providing customer focused services in a relevant technical role.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of mobile development and releasing updates to app stores.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum.

This post is full time and open ended.
