Field Manager - Service Upgrades
Location: Washington (covering the North East Region)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Freedom has an exciting opportunity for a Field Manager to support the delivery of our New Connections Service Upgrades contract with Northern Powergrid. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of electrical service upgrade projects across the North East region. This is a hands on operational role, responsible for coordinating site activities, managing resources, and leading teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day delivery of Service Upgrade works across the Northern Powergrid network.
- Lead and manage Supervisors, Planners, Engineers and Site Operatives.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, to specification, within budget and in line with programme requirements.
- Act as a key operational contact for Northern Powergrid and maintain strong client relationships.
- Champion safe working practices and ensure compliance with all HSQE policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently from planning through to energisation and handover.
- Plan and allocate labour, plant and materials to meet operational demands.
- Monitor contract performance and KPIs, implementing improvements where required.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including RAMS and as-built records.
- Liaise with local authorities, subcontractors and key stakeholders to support project delivery.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement across all activities.
What We're Looking For Essential
- Experience in an operational role within cable installation, utilities or power distribution.
- Strong knowledge of LV cable networks.
- Understanding of new connections processes within a regulated utility environment.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong client and stakeholder management abilities.
- Good commercial awareness and contract management experience.
- SSSTS, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
- Streetworks knowledge and understanding of NRSWA requirements.
- Management or supervisory qualifications.
