Job Description

About us.

We're the team behind digital retailer Very. Our purpose is to help families get more out of life. If you're high performing, ambitious and make the most of every opportunity, we want to hear from you.

About the role.

As a Senior Product Designer, you'll take the lead in designing intuitive, accessible, and impactful customer experiences across our digital products. Working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and UX Researchers, you'll own design solutions from discovery through to delivery, ensuring they meet user needs, business goals and technical constraints.

You'll contribute to the evolution of our design system, lead design work across your squad or workstream, and collaborate on cross tribe initiatives. You'll play a hands on role in shaping the product experience, while also mentoring associated designers and role modeling best practices in accessibility, collaboration, and product thinking.

Key Responsibilities

Craft skill & methods

  • Deliver high quality, accessible, and inclusive design across native mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web platforms.
  • Be skilled in discovery, journey mapping, prototyping, testing, and delivering polished UI design.
  • Apply platform specific conventions (iOS HIG, Material Design) and consider mobile specific scenarios such as authentication, gestures, and screen constraints.
  • Use data and user insights to iterate and inform decisions at pace.
  • Evolve our design system through thoughtful pattern contribution and reuse.
  • Balance usability, creativity and feasibility through close collaboration with engineers.
  • Mentor associated designers on tools, techniques and craft best practices.

Strategic focus & Product mindset

  • Understand product strategy and translate it into clear design opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to shape roadmap decisions and priorities.
  • Embed lean UX into day to day work, validate early and iterate quickly.
  • Connect user needs with business impact and measure success through outcomes.
  • Identify risks, challenge assumptions and ensure the "why" is clear in every design decision.

Technical & business understanding

  • Work fluently within agile product teams and understand development constraints.
  • Build strong partnerships with engineers to ensure quality delivery.
  • Advocate for accessibility and design with WCAG 2.2 AA standards in mind.
  • Understand the role of performance, SEO, and platform requirements in product design.
  • Contribute to team rituals, agile ceremonies and shared delivery goals.

Leading, influencing & communication

  • Lead workshops, design reviews and team rituals with confidence.
  • Communicate design intent clearly to different audiences, from developers to stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach associate and mid level designers, supporting their growth.
  • Help drive alignment across disciplines and keep focus on the user outcome.
  • Be comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a constructive, respectful way.

Collaboration & culture

  • Work openly and collaboratively with cross functional teams.
  • Participate actively in the design community, contributing to critiques, rituals, and culture.
  • Role model inclusive design behaviours and accessibility principles.
  • Champion diverse user perspectives and help ensure all voices are represented in design thinking.

Self management

  • Be organised and proactive - able to manage time across multiple workstreams.
  • Make considered trade offs to balance speed, quality and constraints.
  • Seek feedback, reflect on work, and pursue opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Support team wellbeing and a psychologically safe team culture.
About you
  • Experience designing digital products in cross functional teams.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating end to end product design, from discovery to delivery.
  • Expertise in UX, interaction, visual design and accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA).
  • Confident designing for both native mobile apps (iOS/Android) and responsive web.
  • Familiar with platform conventions and mobile first design principles.
  • Experienced in working with mobile engineers to deliver high quality app experiences.
  • Proficient in Figma and modern product design tools and workflows.
  • Comfortable working within and contributing to design systems at scale.
  • Skilled in facilitating discovery, workshops, testing sessions and co design activities.
  • Strong communicator - able to explain design rationale clearly and influence decision making.
  • A user first mindset, grounded in commercial awareness and business impact.
Benefits
  • Flexible, hybrid working model.
  • £1,000 flexible benefits allowance.
  • 30 days holiday + bank holidays.
  • LinkedIn learning access.
  • Bonus potential (performance and business related).
  • Up to 25% discount on Very.co.uk.
