Job Title/Req Number: R&D Tax Manager - Software Technology

Base Location: London

We are part of KPMG's national Incentives, Reliefs & Innovations team, delivering expert advice on R&D tax credits, Patent Box, R&D allowances and grant applications. The role is for a manager with a strong scientific/engineering background who will support clients across a suite of innovation advisory services.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and work with engagement teams to develop claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC, taking responsibility and accountability for own and team's work.
  • Lead meetings with senior IT, technical and financial client stakeholders; provide expert advice on innovation advisory services and help establish and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Prepare and/or manage the process for technical and financial elements of client deliverables, including reports documenting work undertaken by clients within technically complex IT projects for submission to HMRC and funding organisations; work with tax/costing colleagues and client staff to ensure correct quantification of R&D claims.
  • Manage client projects across tax and technical work streams; handle conflicting resourcing and advise clients on application of complex legislation.
  • Lead by example in client relationships, technical quality and service delivery.
  • Co coach and develop junior staff.
  • Liaise with HMRC specialists to facilitate agreement of R&D claims.
  • Build an internal network within the wider tax practice of the firm.
  • Assist in progressing business development opportunities and pitch for work with new and existing clients.
  • Deliver comprehensive proposals and participate in presentations and pitches as required.
Qualifications
  • Honours/Post Graduate degree in information technology or related discipline; experience in the IT industry is advantageous.
  • Understanding of key tax and costing concepts relevant to R&D claim preparation and ability to work within cross disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and critical thinking to apply complex legislation to real life situations.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to lead technical discussions and explain complex legislative concepts to technologists with no prior tax experience.
  • Capability to produce high quality professional documentation and reports for C suite stakeholders.
  • Project management skills and ability to manage own workload and delegate to staff.
Desired Extras

Tax and accounting qualifications are not essential but welcome (e.g. CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent). Detailed working knowledge of R&D tax legislation and its application to IT activities, or significant industry experience in IT and ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts.
