The successful candidate will work within one of our database support teams and will be focused and motivated with good interpersonal skills. Your role will include optimising and tuning database performance and assisting in database migration. Role Responsibilities Installing and configuring database binaries Writing and maintaining scripts to automate DBA tasks Investigating and implementing automation of operational processes using tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, and Git-based workflows Performing routine, periodic, and proactive operational monitoring and maintenance Troubleshooting database-related issues and driving root cause analysis Optimising and tuning database performance to ensure reliability and efficiency Performing patching and upgrades to ensure data security and compliance Assisting with database migrations, including migrations to cloud-based environments such as AWS Supporting database resilience through backup, recovery, replication, clustering, failover, and disaster recovery activities Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and the modernisation of database services What You Will Bring to the Team A genuine passion for technology and a strong desire to continuously develop your technical skills Willingness to both share your knowledge and learn from others A proactive approach towards identifying risks, opportunities, and potential improvements An ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment A willingness to investigate challenges and develop innovative solutions Good organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills An interest in automation, scripting, and modern infrastructure practices A growth mindset with the ambition to broaden your technical capabilities across databases, cloud technologies, and automation tooling Desirable Skills and Technologies Database Technologies Administration experience in one or more database technologies such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server Knowledge of database server clustering, failover, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions Experience with database replication technologies such as Oracle Data Guard, PostgreSQL Replication Manager, and MongoDB Replica Sets Experience in backup and recovery proceduresOperating Systems & Cloud Experience supporting Linux operating systems (RHEL) and/or Windows Server Experience working with cloud technologies, particularly AWS Knowledge of AWS database services and database deployments in cloud environments Experience planning or delivering database migrations into cloud environments would be highly advantageousAutomation & Scripting Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible Familiarity with source control and collaborative development practices using Git Experience identifying opportunities to automate operational and administrative tasksMonitoring & Tooling Knowledge of database monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Nagios, or equivalent monitoring platformsAt DXC Technology, we believe strong connections and community are key to our success.
