Printer

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate print machinery to optimum levels in a safe working manner
  • Maintain machinery and surrounding area in line with health, safety, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards
  • Log and clean spills immediately
  • Deliver and sign off work in line with production orders, proactively monitoring and controlling print quality
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as BRC, ISO and A2 permit
  • Carry out print inspections and troubleshoot issues with the printing press or print quality
  • Identify non conformities and correct deficiencies by liaising with the manager and, if needed, Technical and Quality teams
  • Maintain lean manufacturing principles including 5S and SMED
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within Production
  • Complete all paperwork and electronic data in a timely manner
  • Fill out change request forms if a change needs to be made or an error is found
  • Complete shift handovers, ensuring the press is in an appropriate operational condition and the next shift is briefed on production status and any outstanding issues
  • Perform press change over and run speeds in line with KPIs, ensuring waste is kept to a minimum during print runs
Qualifications
  • Fully trained Flexographic Printer - relevant print qualifications (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3)
  • Additional qualifications such as fire safety, first aid (advantage but not essential)
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy, preferably GCSE level in English and Maths or equivalent
  • Extensive flexographic print experience
  • Experience of Bobst print machines (advantage)
  • Strong background in manufacturing, either label or packaging printing
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement techniques (advantage)
  • Plate mounting experience (advantage)
  • Considerable exposure to quality, health, safety and environmental standards and practices within a production setting
Shift Pattern

Printers work a 12 hour shift pattern, spread over a rotating three week cycle with no weekends. Typical schedule:

  • Week 1 - 2 days, 1 off, 2 nights, 2 off
  • Week 2 - 3 nights, 6 off
  • Week 3 - 3 days, 2 off
Fitness Requirement

A reasonable level of fitness is required as the role involves some physical activity such as lifting and bending.
