Senior OpenShift Platform Engineer

Join Boeing Defence United Kingdom Limited as a Senior OpenShift Platform Engineer within the Infrastructure Team. You will jointly support and maintain the Red Hat OpenShift Container platform and the wider Red Hat Linux server estate across multiple programmes, including the Ministry of Defence Information Services (MoD IS).

Job Summary

This hands on role requires advanced proficiency in Container platform technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, RHEL OpenShift 3.x and 4.x, and multiple Linux/Unix operating systems (RHEL, HPUX, Solaris, CentOS). You will work closely with teams to ensure smooth project delivery, drive automation, and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and support Red Hat OpenShift enterprise deployments.
  • Ensure availability, reliability and performance of OpenShift/Container platforms in production and non production environments.
  • Perform patching, software implementations and upgrades for OpenShift platforms.
  • Automate infrastructure patching, monitoring and related tasks.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to improve efficiency and reduce incidents.
  • Diagnose and mitigate problems, creating detailed problem statements and mitigation plans.
  • Provide 24x7 on call support and participate in the team rota.
  • Support service and application migration activities between RHEL and OpenShift.
  • Contribute to design reviews, ensuring best practice implementation of container platforms and automation toolchains.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • UK Security Clearance or ability to obtain UK SC clearance.
  • Hands on experience installing, upgrading and configuring Red Hat OpenShift (large scale migrations preferred).
  • Administering OpenShift and related container monitoring tools.
  • Ability to script for day to day OpenShift automation.
  • Knowledge of OpenShift v3.x & v4.x (Operators, registry, networking, CI/CD).
  • Experience troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Automation experience with Ansible, Ansible Tower, GitLab/Jenkins.
  • Strong background in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and UNIX system administration (RHEL8/RHEL9).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired)
  • DevOps/CI/CD process architecture or engineering experience.
  • Red Hat certifications: RHSA or RHCE, Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes, or OpenShift Administration.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Ruby, PowerShell, Python or Java).
  • Experience in secure, high availability environments.
  • Understanding of networking, storage, virtualization, and HCI platforms.
