Requirements
- Experienced Power BI Developer with deep expertise in Microsoft Power BI, including Desktop, Service, gateways and workspace management.
- Strong skills in DAX and data modelling.
- Experience working with large and complex data sets, writing optimised queries and understanding performance impacts.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, star schemas, ETL/data ingestion and relational database systems such as SQL Server, Azure SQL or equivalent.
- Experience implementing role-based security and row-level security in Power BI.
- Good visualisation design sense, including knowledge of UX, dashboard best practices, filters, slicers, and mobile versus desktop views.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, Power BI Premium or Embedded is beneficial.
- A Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate certification is advantageous.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders, able to work well under tight deadlines.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to think at an executive level, translating complex data into clear insights.
Responsibilities
- Engage with business stakeholders and Business Analysts to gather and clarify reporting requirements, KPIs, data sources and user stories.
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports and scorecards that deliver actionable insights across operational, tactical and executive levels.
- Build robust data models in Power BI, defining tables, relationships, hierarchies and measures using DAX, while applying performance optimisation and refresh strategies.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency and integrity by reconciling Power BI outputs with source systems, data warehouses and business rules.
- Implement role-based security, including row-level security and workspace permissions, in the Power BI service.
- Apply visual design best practices, including layout, interactivity, filter and slicer design, performance considerations, drill-throughs and mobile-ready views.
- Work with the Data Engineering team to ensure data pipelines, data marts and warehouses deliver appropriate and performant data.
- Monitor and optimise report performance, including data refresh, query performance, caching and incremental loads.
- Document technical designs, data flows, reporting specifications, user guides and training materials.
- Conduct user acceptance testing and incorporate feedback to refine reports.
- Support change-management and training programme by delivering training sessions, creating quick-start guides and addressing user queries during early adoption.
- Maintain, enhance and decommission reports as required, manage a backlog of enhancements and defects, and ensure version control.
- Stay current with Power BI features and analytics trends, and recommend continuous improvements.

About the role
This is a 12 month fixed term Power BI Developer role within our Technology & Information team, supporting the Everyday Excellence programme from our Coventry office. Work will be on an agile basis, typically 2 to 4 times per month.
