AIC is seeking a VBS Engineer to support defence simulation projects involving VBS plugin development, 3D modelling, scripting, scenario tooling and simulation integration. Experience with flight simulation dynamics is highly desirable.
AIC Professional Services UK Ltd is looking for a skilled VBS Engineer to support the design, development and integration of advanced synthetic training and simulation capabilities.
This role is suited to someone with strong experience in the Virtual Battlespace ecosystem, particularly around plugin development, 3D asset creation, scripting, scenario development and technical integration. You will help build, adapt and extend simulation environments for defence, security and training use cases.
You will work on practical, mission-focused simulation problems where realism, repeatability, performance and integration quality matter.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, configure and extend VBS-based simulation environments.
- Build and maintain VBS plugins, tools, scripts and technical integrations.
- Create, adapt or optimise 3D models, terrain features, entities and simulation assets.
- Support scenario development, mission rehearsal workflows and training content.
- Integrate VBS with external systems, data feeds, simulation tools or customer platforms.
- Work with engineers, modellers, military users and stakeholders to translate operational requirements into working simulation capability.
- Troubleshoot performance, scripting, asset, networking and integration issues.
- Produce clear technical documentation, configuration notes and handover material.
- Support demonstrations, trials, testing and customer acceptance activity.
Essential skills and experience
- Hands on experience with VBS, VBS4 or related Bohemia Interactive Simulation / OneArc tooling.
- Strong scripting experience, ideally with SQF, C#, C++, Python, Lua or similar simulation/game scripting languages.
- Experience developing or modifying plugins, add ons, tools or extensions for simulation platforms.
- Practical 3D modelling experience using tools such as Blender, 3ds Max, Maya or equivalent.
- Understanding of simulation asset pipelines, optimisation, level of detail, textures, materials and model preparation.
- Ability to debug technical issues across scripts, assets, configuration and runtime behaviour.
- Comfortable working in defence, security, training or high assurance technical environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Flight simulation dynamics, aircraft behaviour modelling or rotary/fixed wing simulation.
- VBS Builder Edition, VBS Blue, TerraTools, Mantle or related OneArc simulation products.
- DIS, HLA, CIGI or other simulation interoperability standards.
- Terrain generation, geospatial data processing or synthetic environment creation.
- Game engine experience, such as Unreal Engine, Unity or custom simulation engines.
- Experience with military training systems, mission rehearsal, LVC simulation or operational experimentation.
- Existing UK security clearance, or willingness and eligibility to undergo security vetting where required.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone practical, technically strong and comfortable solving complex simulation problems. You do not need to know everything, but you must be able to take ownership, investigate unfamiliar tooling, build robust solutions and work cleanly in a customer facing defence environment.
This role would suit a developer, technical artist, simulation engineer or serious VBS specialist who can bridge the gap between engineering, modelling and operational training requirements.
