Job Description

Our business has evolved enormously over the last 17 years, from 18 year old Matt at his parents' home to the multi award winning, multi million pound, industry leading company we are today.

We're proud to be the most in-demand and highest-rated events company in the country, and we plan to keep it that way. That reputation and demand means we're growing exponentially and forever looking for new amazing people to join us! So, if you'd like to be part of 'exceptional', please read on

You can read more about how we do things here , but if you're someone who brings the fun, owns your bit and plays for the team, you'll probably love it here.

About the Role: Web & Marketing Developer

We are looking for a Web & Marketing Developer who takes genuine ownership of our digital presence and keeps it sharp, fast, and functioning at all times.

This is not a project role. We are not rebuilding from scratch. We are looking for someone who wants to be the person our marketing team relies on every day: fixing what needs fixing, building what needs building, and making sure our website works as hard as the business does.

In practice, that means owning the Clownfish website end to end, supporting our digital and email marketing operations through our systems (including HubSpot and Zapier), and being the go to when something breaks or something new needs to exist. You will work inside our marketing team, not alongside it, which means understanding commercial context and moving at the pace the business demands.

You will work closely with our Senior Marketing Manager, who owns our digital growth strategy and HubSpot implementation. Your role is to be the technical engine behind that strategy: building and maintaining the infrastructure that makes campaigns, landing pages, and email marketing actually work. You will also be the first call when the site has a problem and the last line of defence before anything goes live.

If you take pride in clean builds, communicate proactively, and hate leaving things broken, you will thrive here. We'll teach you how to fit in around here and encourage you to flourish - it's been the Clownfish way since 2009.

What a Day Might Look Like:

The majority of your time will be spent on the website and our marketing tech stack. Some of it will be reactive: a bug surfaces, a campaign needs a landing page by tomorrow, an integration stops talking to itself. Both are part of the job, and the best person for this role will take that rhythm in their stride.

  • Website Ownership (approx. 55%)
    • Owning the Clownfish website day to day: performance, maintenance, bug fixes, and updates. You are the person who notices something is off before anyone else does.
    • Building landing pages for campaigns, events, lead generation, and anything else the business needs. Fast, on brand, and functional.
    • Monitoring site speed, uptime, and technical SEO health, and acting on what you find.
    • Managing WordPress day to day: keeping content structure clean, templates consistent, and the backend easy for non technical team members to navigate.
    • Coordinating with external partners (web agency, hosting, third party tools) where needed, and knowing when to elevate versus resolve in house.
    • Contributing to how we think about the site's evolution over time, not just keeping the lights on but helping us get better.
    • Using AI tools as a natural part of how you work: accelerating builds, debugging faster, generating boilerplate, and exploring solutions without waiting for someone to hand you a brief.
  • HubSpot & Email Marketing Support (approx. 30%)
    • Supporting the Senior Marketing Manager on HubSpot email builds, templates, automation flows, and list management.
    • Implementing and trafficking display ad assets across relevant platforms.
    • Maintaining and improving integrations between HubSpot, Pipedrive, the website, and other tools in our stack.
    • Troubleshooting platform issues and keeping our marketing tech running smoothly.
    • Building out new HubSpot functionality as our usage matures and our needs grow.
  • Supporting the Head of Marketing and wider team on digital projects, campaign builds, and business initiatives.
  • Identifying opportunities to use AI tools to support the marketing team: automating repetitive workflows, improving campaign infrastructure, and helping the team move faster without adding headcount.
  • Working cross functionally with Events, Sales, and Operations when digital infrastructure is needed to support a brief or activation.
  • Keeping shared technical documentation, assets, and resources organised and accessible.
  • Maintaining familiarity with our core software stack, including PandaDoc, Pipedrive, Notion, and Loom, so your work integrates with how the wider business operates.
What We Are Looking For:
  • A developer with genuine ownership instincts who doesn't wait to be told something needs fixing.
  • Solid back end competence in at least one server side language (PHP, Node.js, or Python).
  • WordPress or equivalent CMS experience, comfortable both in the admin and under the hood.
  • HubSpot experience, or a demonstrable track record of getting up to speed fast in a live marketing platform.
  • A good eye for UX and performance, understanding that how something works is as important as whether it works.
  • Someone who communicates clearly and proactively. No one wants to chase a developer for a status update.
  • Comfortable using AI tools as part of your day to day workflow. Not a specialism, just an expectation. Copilot, Cursor, Claude, whatever your preference, you use what works.
  • Organised, reliable, and commercially aware enough to understand that marketing deadlines are real deadlines.
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience with email marketing platforms: building templates, automation logic, and list segmentation.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or similar.
  • Experience working embedded in a marketing team rather than in a separate tech function.
  • Any background in events, hospitality, or a fast moving commercial environment where pace is a given.

Reports to: Head of Marketing.

Schedule:Monday to Friday, standard working hours. Some flexibility required around campaign launches and time sensitive builds.

Location:Office based, with Fridays WFH after onboarding. Occasional on site presence at events.

Salary:£30,000 to £36,000 per annum, subject to experience.

Bonus: Annual profit share if company targets are hit.
