About the role
A typical day for an Applications Manager could look like this:
- Leading and developing a global team of 6 application engineers, supporting capability, performance, and growth
- Working closely with customers to understand use cases, challenges, and performance requirements
- Supporting system installation, acceptance testing, and optimisation at customer sites
- Acting as the escalation point for complex application and system issues
- Collaborating with engineering and product teams to turn customer feedback into product improvements
- Defining and improving application workflows, documentation, and best practice
- Supporting pre sales activities, including technical demos and feasibility discussions
- Driving continuous improvement in how systems are deployed and used in the field
- Supporting global deployments, including occasional international travel
Who we are looking for
- Experience in application engineering, systems engineering, or a customer facing technical role
- A background working with complex, high precision instrumentation
- Delivering technical solutions directly to customers (installation, optimisation, troubleshooting)
- Confident leading, mentoring, or developing a small team of global engineers
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical technical solutions
- Systems level understanding across mechanical, optical, and electronic systems or experience working with semiconductor equipment
Nice to have
- Experience supporting global deployments and working with international customers
- Exposure to pre sales activity (technical demos, solution development)
- Experience working in a scaling or high growth tech business
Education / Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Physics, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems), Materials Science, or similar
- Or a clear equivalent path through apprenticeship or hands on experience

This role requires attendance onsite most days and some global travel.
