An innovative and rapidly growing fintech organisation is looking for a talented Backend Engineer to join its engineering team as it continues to evolve a cutting-edge platform used to deliver mission-critical financial technology solutions to clients across global markets.

This is an opportunity to work on highly scalable systems in a collaborative, product-focused environment where engineering quality, innovation and modern development practices are central to the company's success. You'll play an important role in designing, building and improving Back End services while helping to shape the future direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Back End services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Build and enhance APIs and distributed services that power core platform functionality
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help evolve a modern microservices ecosystem
• Develop event-driven solutions using messaging technologies and asynchronous processing
• Improve existing systems through refactoring, optimisation and ongoing maintenance
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks and engineering practices where appropriate
• Work collaboratively within a cross-functional agile team to deliver high-quality software
• Leverage AI-powered development tools to improve productivity and code quality
• Support a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

Skills & Experience

• Commercial experience developing Back End applications with Node.js and TypeScript
• Strong understanding of API development, application architecture and Back End security principles
• Experience building microservices and distributed systems
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS or similar platforms
• Experience developing cloud-native applications, ideally within AWS environments
• Comfortable working across the full software development life cycle from design through to production support
• Experience incorporating AI tools into day-to-day software engineering workflows
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
• A proactive approach to learning new technologies and solving complex technical challenges

Nice to Have

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Exposure to financial services, fintech or foreign exchange platforms
• Experience within startup or scale-up technology businesses
• Knowledge of coding agents, AI-assisted development or context engineering practices
• Experience working with high-volume transactional systems and event-driven architectures
