About the Role

The Security Engineer is responsible for acting as a practical technical bridge between the security and infrastructure functions, helping ensure security requirements are translated into effective, supportable technical solutions across core infrastructure services.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Infrastructure, the role supports the prioritisation and delivery of security improvements across identity, endpoint and infrastructure platforms, with particular focus on Microsoft 365 and Azure Services. This is a hands on role for someone who is diligent, security focused and technically credible. The role must be able to balance security expectations with operational reality, work through competing priorities, and deliver meaningful control improvements in live environments.

Security and infrastructure interface

Act as a key technical liaison between security and infrastructure for relevant engineering activity.

Translate security requirements, findings, audit points and technical risk into clear technical actions and delivery plans.

Help ensure infrastructure change and operational activity align with the organisation's security expectations and standards.

Escalate risks, blockers or technical weaknesses where needed.

Secure infrastructure delivery

Deliver and support technical security improvements across core infrastructure platforms and services.

Implement and maintain controls relating to identity, endpoint, device management and privileged access.

Support the hardening, configuration and secure operation of Microsoft and Azure services.

Identity and access security

Support the secure management and improvement of Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.

Assist with privileged access, conditional access, authentication controls, role design and directory hygiene.

Help reduce identity related risk through practical technical remediation and improvement.

Endpoint and device security

Support secure device management through Microsoft Intune and related endpoint tooling.

Assist with device configuration, compliance policy enforcement, hardening baselines and security settings deployment.

Work with infrastructure and security teams to improve endpoint resilience, consistency and visibility.

Co ordinate security vulnerability remediation across Infrastructure services.

Prioritisation and execution

Help manage and sequence technical security priorities, technical debt and infrastructure security improvements across infrastructure workloads.

Work with the Deputy Head of Infrastructure and security stakeholders to ensure the most important risks and control improvements are addressed first.

Ensure work is progressed in a disciplined and traceable way rather than handled informally or inconsistently.

About You

We are seeking a hands on Infrastructure Security Engineer to act as a key technical bridge between security and infrastructure.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Infrastructure, this role will support the prioritisation and delivery of technical security improvements across core Microsoft and infrastructure services, with particular focus on Microsoft 365 and Azure.

The role requires strong practical engineering experience, sound judgement, attention to detail and a clear security focus. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, Endpoint security and identity/access controls.

Good understanding of infrastructure security risks and the controls used to manage them. Strong practical troubleshooting and delivery skills. Ability to balance security expectations with operational reality.

Strong organisational discipline, attention to detail and follow through. Good written and verbal communication skills when working across technical teams.

In depth knowledge of IT risk taxonomies demonstrating the ability to consistently classify and articulate technology risks PM1.
