About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Printer to join our team in Wigan. The successful candidate will lead and operate a flexographic print machine, ensuring safe and efficient production that meets regulatory and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate print machinery to optimum levels in a safe working manner, maintaining the machinery and surrounding area in compliance with health, safety, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards.
- Deliver and sign off work in line with production orders, proactively monitoring and controlling print quality.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as BRC, ISO and A2 permits.
- Carry out print inspections and troubleshoot issues with the printing press or print quality, identifying non conformities and liaising with the Lead Hand in Print and Technical and Quality teams as needed.
- Maintain lean manufacturing principles, including 5 S and SMED, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Complete all paperwork and electronic data in a timely manner, and fill out change request forms for any necessary changes.
- Conduct shift handovers, ensuring the press is in the appropriate operational condition and the next shift is briefed on production status and any relevant issues.
- Perform press change over and run speeds in line with KPIs, keeping waste to a minimum during print runs.
Qualifications
- Fully trained Flexographic Printer (City & Guilds or NVQ Level2 or3).
- Experience with solvent based inks and wide web presses.
- Experience with Fischer+Krecke16S or Bobst20SIXCI press machines (advantage).
- Good level of literacy and numeracy (GCSE level in English and Maths or equivalent).
- Experience in manufacturing, preferably label or packaging printing.
- Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement techniques (advantage).
- Plate mounting experience (advantage).
- Experience overseeing the work of others on the print press.
- Strong knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental standards in a production setting.
Shift Pattern
Printers on the F&K machine work a 12 hour shift pattern rotating over a 4 week cycle:
- Week1 - 4 nights, 3 days off
- Week2 - 3 days, 1 day off, 3 nights
- Week3 - 3 days off, 4 days
- Week4 - 7 days off
A reasonable level of fitness is required as the role involves lifting and bending. What We Offer
