Job Description

Data Centre Operations Technician(L3)

Responsible for ensuring secure, operational IT infrastructure in the data centre, maintaining 99.999% uptime across customer server environments.

Shift: 3rd (night) shift 20:30-06:30, 4days per week (rotates Sun Weds to Weds Sat). Full time, 24 7 365 coverage including holidays and weekends.

Key Accountabilities
  • Utilize custom monitoring software and internal ticketing system to provide customer support.
  • Identify and troubleshoot simple hardware failures on x86-based servers, including replacement of failed hardware components.
  • Troubleshoot simple operating system storage issues, including file system, disk management and RAID technologies.
  • Support servers running Microsoft Windows Server, RedHat Enterprise Server, Ubuntu Linux or VMWare ESX Server.
  • Troubleshoot simple OS administration issues, including login, password and connectivity problems.
  • Troubleshoot simple LAN connectivity issues and re-establish remote access using SSH, Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Services or Remote Access Controllers.
  • Configure and replace network device hardware, including access and aggregation switches, firewalls, load balancers and security appliances.
  • Configure and replace storage devices, including DAS and NAS arrays.
  • Maintain customer configurations: hardware modification, OS installation, mounting in cabinets, and cabling.
  • Troubleshoot copper and fibre cabling, including installation testing and connectivity issues.
  • Provide concise, professional technical communication regarding customer configurations.
  • Adhere to company security policies, health safety, and local governing requirements.
  • Execute meticulous 5S and housekeeping practices.
  • Demonstrate full performance in a continuous, measurable manner.
  • Show high passion and enthusiasm when delivering Fanatical Support to customers and colleagues.
  • Communicate honestly and transparently to build trust with customers and coworkers.
Requirements
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent; further technical education advantageous.
  • Experience building, repairing, or upgrading hardware components.
  • Experience in a customer service oriented role preferred.
  • Industry recognized certifications in operating systems, networking, security and/or storage technologies preferred.
  • Experience with DellPowerEdge and HPProLiant rack servers preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco ASA/ASA X firewalls, F5BigIP, BrocadeADX load balancers and Alert Logic IDS preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst 2900, 4900, 6500 and Nexus series switches preferred.
  • Experience with Dell PowerVault DAS, NetApp and EMC Isilon NAS systems preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible, 24 7 365 coverage schedule including holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; proficiency in typing and professional phone etiquette.
  • Proficiency with productivity software, e.g., Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, and email clients.
  • Capability to lift 50lbs overhead.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel occasionally (2-4weeks/yr).
